When we were choosing a ceiling fan for our tiny cottage, I really didn't want a big traditional fan taking over the room. I loved the idea of a pretty crystal chandelier, but in Florida, I definitely wasn't willing to give up having a ceiling fan.
That's how we ended up with a crystal fandelier — basically a chandelier and ceiling fan combined into one fixture.
We've actually used fandaliers in several of our renovation projects, and I love how you can get a more decorative light fixture without giving up the function of a ceiling fan.
Our 48-Inch Crystal Fandelier
The one we installed in our tiny cottage has 48-inch retractable fan blades. When the fan is off, the blades retract above the fixture, so what you mostly notice is the crystal chandelier.
Turn the fan on and the blades extend out, giving you a full-size ceiling fan. That's probably my favorite thing about this style of fan — it doesn't look like a traditional ceiling fan when you're not using it.

Does a Fandelier Actually Move Enough Air?
This was one of the things I wondered about before using a fandelier. It might look pretty, but I still wanted it to function like an actual ceiling fan.
Ours has six fan speeds, and we've been really happy with the amount of air it moves in our cottage. I especially like having the different speeds because we can keep it low when we just want some circulation or turn it up when we want more airflow.
Lighting and Remote Control
The remote controls both the fan and the light, so we don't have to rely on a wall switch for all of the different settings. We can adjust the fan speed, dim the light and switch between different light colors.
I also love what the crystal design does to the light. When it's illuminated, the crystals create a really pretty pattern across the surrounding walls and ceiling. That's something that's hard to appreciate from a regular product photo, but you can see it in the video above.
Is a Fandelier Good for a Small Room?
For our tiny cottage, it has worked really well. Because the blades retract when they're not being used, the fixture doesn't visually feel like a big 48-inch ceiling fan all the time.
Instead, you get the decorative crystal chandelier look with the option of having a full ceiling fan whenever you need it. For a smaller room where both appearance and function matter, I think that's a big advantage.
Would I Buy a Fandelier Again?
Yes — and we actually have. We've used fandaliers in more than one of our renovation projects because I like having more decorative options than you typically get with a standard ceiling fan.
