This DIY kids picnic table is definitely one of those projects for me.
My son built this little wooden picnic table for the girls, and it ended up becoming one of my favorite backyard projects we've had around here.

He built the picnic table specifically for the girls to use outside, and once it was finished, they loved having a little table that was actually their size.

A Backyard Project Made for the Girls
One of my favorite things is watching my kids make things for each other.
This little picnic table wasn't just another piece of outdoor furniture. It was something made specifically for the girls to enjoy, which made the finished result feel much more special than simply buying a kids table and setting it outside.
My favorite part: It wasn't the table itself. It was watching one of the kids make something for the others and then seeing how much they actually used it.
Why a Kids Picnic Table Works So Well Outside
A small picnic table is such a practical addition to a backyard when you have younger kids.
It gives them their own place to sit, eat snacks, color, play, or just hang out without having to use full-size outdoor furniture.
Because the table is built at their height, it also makes the outdoor space feel a little more like theirs.
We've done quite a few outdoor projects over the years, including our tiny home outdoor makeover, and I always like when an outdoor space has something people will actually use instead of just looking nice.

And judging by how quickly the dolls ended up using it too, apparently it had more than one purpose.
A Simple Woodworking Project With a Lot of Meaning
I love projects like this because they don't have to be expensive or elaborate to become memorable.
The table itself is simple, but the fact that it was handmade for the girls is what made it one of those projects worth looking back on.
It's a good reminder that some of the best DIY projects aren't necessarily the biggest ones.
One of My Favorite Family DIY Projects
This project is a little different from some of the bigger projects we share, like our living room makeover before and after, but it's exactly the kind of thing I want to remember.
