Closet to Kitchenette: How We Added a Kitchenette to Our Guest Suite

This little kitchenette started as a closet.

But the kitchenette was actually only one part of a much bigger project.

We remodeled the entire space to make it feel more like its own suite, and turning this closet area into a kitchenette was one of the changes that made the biggest difference in how functional the space became.

What We Started With

Before the renovation, this area was simply a closet.

When we started thinking about how we could make the entire space function more like a suite, this little area gave us an opportunity to create something much more useful.

Turning the Space Into a Suite

When we started this renovation, the goal wasn't just to improve one little area.

We wanted to remodel the whole space and make it function more like a suite.

That meant thinking about how someone would actually use the space and what would make it feel more comfortable and self-contained.

Adding a kitchenette was one of those ideas.

From Closet to Kitchenette

Once we decided to use the closet area, we started transforming it into a finished part of the suite.

Even little details like wallpaper and finishes helped make it feel less like a former closet and more like a space that was always meant to be there.

The Finished Kitchenette

The finished space looks completely different from the closet we started with.

Instead of using that area only for storage, it became a functional little kitchenette that helped the entire room feel much more like its own suite.

Why We Used the Closet for the Kitchenette

The closet gave us a defined area where we could add some of the basics without taking over the rest of the room.

Instead of leaving it as storage space, we were able to make it much more useful.

That helped us create a kitchenette area while still keeping the rest of the suite open and comfortable.

The bigger idea:

We weren't just adding a kitchenette. We were trying to make the whole space work better as a suite.

A Small Kitchenette Can Add a Lot of Function

You don't necessarily need a full kitchen to make a guest suite feel more useful.

Even a smaller kitchenette area can give someone a place for drinks, snacks, coffee and other everyday basics.

For this renovation, it made sense because it added another function to the room without requiring us to completely change the layout.

Part of a Full Renovation

The kitchenette tends to get attention because the closet-to-kitchenette transformation is easy to see in a quick before-and-after.

But this wasn't the entire project.

We renovated the full suite and made several changes throughout the space.

The kitchenette was just one piece of making the finished space feel more complete.

Kitchenette Finds and Ideas

I put together an Amazon Ideas List with some of the products and ideas we used or liked for this type of kitchenette transformation.

Would You Turn a Closet Into a Kitchenette?

I love projects where a space gets used in a completely different way than it was originally intended.

A closet may not sound like the obvious place for a kitchenette, but for this renovation it worked.

And because it was part of the larger suite remodel, it helped make the whole space feel more functional.

For this suite, I'd absolutely do it again.
