I told my husband I wanted a garden... and he delivered. 😂
This is pretty typical of how projects happen around here. I come up with an idea, start picturing what we could do with a space, and somehow my husband figures out how to make it happen.
This time, the idea was a garden.
I told my husband to build me a garden...
And he delivered. 🌱
The Backyard Before the Garden
Before we started, this was just another area of the yard.
I could picture what I wanted the space to become, but there is always a pretty big difference between having an idea in your head and actually building it.
That's where my husband comes in. He's pretty good at taking my ideas and figuring out how to turn them into something real.

From an idea to an actual garden.
Turning the Idea Into a Garden
One of my favorite parts of doing projects together is that we each bring something different to them.
I usually have no shortage of ideas for things I'd like to change, build or redo. My husband is really good at figuring out how we're actually going to make those ideas work.
This garden was another one of those projects.
Once the structure of the space started coming together, it was exciting to finally see something that had only been an idea start looking like a real garden.
This is pretty much how projects work around here:
I have a vision. He figures out how to build it. Then somehow we find another project. 😂
Why We Wanted a Garden
I wanted a dedicated area that felt like an actual garden rather than simply having a few plants scattered around the yard.
Having the space defined makes it feel like its own little area and gives us somewhere we can continue working on, planting and changing as we go.
And that's one of the things I like about a garden — it isn't really a project that is ever completely finished.
The Garden Before and After
The before and after is probably my favorite part of this project.
When you're in the middle of building something, you tend to notice everything that's still left to do. Looking back at where you started makes you realize how much has already changed.
What started as an idea for part of the yard is now an actual garden space that we can continue adding to over time.
Of Course, We're Not Finished
If you've followed any of our other projects, you probably already know that "finished" doesn't always mean finished around here. 😂
Now that the garden itself is built, we can keep working on what goes inside it and how we want the whole area to look.
I'll keep sharing the progress as we plant, change things and figure out what works best in the space.
What would you plant first?
Vegetables, herbs, flowers... or a little bit of everything?
