Would you have seen a kitchen when you walked into this old laundry room?
When we decided to turn part of our house into a suite, we had a laundry room and a tiny bedroom to work with. We ended up removing the wall between them and changing the layout to create a suite with a bedroom, bathroom, and full kitchen.
And yes, the room in these before pictures really was our laundry room!

From Laundry Room to Full Kitchen: Before & After
Here's the kitchen side of the transformation. The original laundry room became a full kitchen, complete with a sink, stove, and space for a dining nook.
Sometimes a room's original purpose doesn't have to be its forever purpose.

Why We Turned Our Laundry Room Into a Kitchen
This project was part of a bigger change to our house. We wanted to create a suite, and the space we had to work with included the laundry room and a very small bedroom.
We removed the wall between the two rooms and reworked the layout. The former laundry room became the full kitchen and dining area, with the bedroom connected to it.
There were also a couple of doorway changes that made a big difference. If you notice the bathroom door in the before pictures, that entrance was changed. The bathroom is still behind the kitchen, but now you enter it from the bedroom area instead.
We also closed off the old laundry room doorway that had connected this space to the rest of our house.
Those changes helped us turn the old layout into a much more useful suite.
The Dining Nook: Before & After
The dining area deserves its own before and after, too. It's another angle that shows just how much this former laundry room changed.
Finishing Touches in Our New Kitchen
Once the layout was changed, the details helped make the new kitchen feel like part of a finished living space rather than a former utility room.
For the sink area, we chose a farmhouse sink and a sink faucet. We also added an apartment-size stove to make this a full kitchen.
Some of the smaller details add personality, too, like the flower cabinet pulls and under-cabinet curtains.
And I love the chandelier in the dining area. It's one of those finishing touches that helps the space feel less like its former laundry-room self.
