This back porch needed more than a little cleanup.
We re-screened it, painted the ceilings and doors, and stenciled the floor to give the whole space a completely different look.
It was one of those projects where several smaller changes ended up making a really big difference.
Back porch before and after.
New screening, fresh paint and a stenciled floor completely changed the space.
The Back Porch Before
The porch had good bones, but it definitely needed attention.
The screening needed to be redone, the painted surfaces needed refreshing, and the floor was one of the biggest opportunities to make the space feel more finished.
Instead of changing the entire structure, we focused on improving what was already there.

Re-Screening the Porch
One of the biggest parts of the project was re-screening the porch.
New screening helped make the whole space feel cleaner and more finished while keeping the porch usable as an outdoor living area.
It was one of those changes that may not seem dramatic by itself, but it made a noticeable difference once everything else was finished.
Painting the Ceiling and Doors
We also painted the porch ceiling and doors.
Fresh paint helped pull everything together and made the entire porch feel brighter and more intentional.
I like projects where you don't necessarily have to replace everything. Sometimes cleaning up and repainting what is already there is enough to completely change how a space feels.
One thing I've learned from renovations:
Not every transformation needs brand-new everything. Sometimes the biggest difference comes from fixing and updating what you already have.
Stenciling the Porch Floor
The floor was probably one of my favorite parts of this makeover.
Instead of leaving it plain, I stenciled the floor to give the porch more character.
It took more work than simply painting it one color, but the pattern gave the finished space a much more custom look.
It's a good example of how a relatively simple detail can change the entire feel of a room or outdoor space.
Several Small Changes, One Big Transformation
What I like about this makeover is that there wasn't one single thing responsible for the finished result.
It was the combination of the new screening, painted ceiling and doors, and stenciled floor that made everything come together.
Individually, each project improved the porch. Together, they made it feel like a completely different space.
Would I Do It Again?
Absolutely.
I especially like projects like this where we can take an existing space and make it feel completely different without having to rebuild everything from scratch.
The porch still feels like the same house — just a much more finished version of it.
What made the biggest difference?
The screening, fresh paint or the stenciled floor?
