You know how sometimes you finish a project, think it looks fine, and then the longer you look at it, the more something starts bothering you? That was me with the ceiling in our tiny home!
Some of the drywall tape was visible. It wasn't terrible at first, but eventually I felt like it was making the space look a little cheap. I wanted to do something about it without spending a fortune or starting a huge project.
I considered wallpaper for the ceiling, but ended up going with decorative ceiling tiles instead. The makeover cost us around $200, and we used the tiles in their original color—no painting needed!
Before: Our Original Tiny Home Ceiling
Here's what the ceiling looked like before we added the tiles. The drywall tape issue isn't necessarily something you'll notice in this photo, but it was something I kept noticing in person.
Why I Chose Ceiling Tiles Instead of Wallpaper
Wallpaper was one of the options I considered, but I kept coming back to ceiling tiles. I liked the idea of adding some texture overhead while covering the ceiling that had been bothering me.
We chose these decorative ceiling tiles from Amazon. They're glue-up tiles, so we attached them to the ceiling rather than installing a drop ceiling.
We also kept the tiles their original color. That meant we didn't have to add painting the ceiling tiles to our project list!
Approximate project cost: $200
Painted the tiles? No—we used their original color.
After: Our $200 Tiny Home Ceiling Makeover
And here's the finished ceiling! Instead of the plain ceiling that had been bothering me, we now have decorative tiles overhead.
I like that this was a change we could make without redoing the whole room. It covered the area I wasn't happy with and added a little more personality to our tiny home.

What do you think—did the ceiling tiles elevate the look, or would you have kept the painted ceiling?
